HYPNOSIS: Questions & Answers

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

The American Medical Association defines Hypnosis as a temporary condition of altered attention, within which a variety of phenomena may appear spontaneously, or manifest themselves in response to verbal or other stimuli. When a person is hypnotized and in this relaxed state their susceptibility to suggestion is increased. Therefore hypnosis can be considered a learning process.

Hypnosis is a very effective and safe mind /brain/ body technique. That has been practiced for thousands of years. Hypnosis was approved by American Medical Association as a viable healthcare practice in 1958. It can be a powerful healthcare tool, when an individual is highly motivated to overcome an issue/problem. Research has shown that Hypnosis can and will work alone or as a complement to other therapeutic modalities.

HOW DOES IT Work?

There are two parts to our brain and each has a very different role. The conscious mind or the “thinking” part of the brain and the subconscious mind or the “ memory “. Hypnosis works by guiding you into a state of deep relaxation and focused awareness, once there you then access your subconscious mind allowing yourself to be open to suggestions and messages. This is why a suggestion given in a hypnotic state is much stronger then a command given in a conscious state. Using your imagination is a very important ingredient in hypnosis. Your imagination always wins over willpower and conscious thinking. By consistently listening to positive suggestions and affirmations while in hypnosis you can actually change the behavior and make it a permanent habit.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN MY FIRST SESSION?

Your first session is a consultation and hypnosis session. During this session you will learn about Hypnosis and how it works. Any questions you may have will be answered. You will experience several short exercises related to your session. The hypnotherapist will then guide you into a state of calm and deep relaxation. And with the use of specific therapeutic reframing techniques along with positive hypnotic suggestions, you will visualize and focus on your desired goal.

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?

Hypnotherapy sessions are different for or everyone. Depending on the behavior that needs to be changed. Some people may get results with 1-2 sessions, some require 5-6 sessions. This depends on how many years your undesirable habit or unwanted behaviors have been with you.

CAN I BE HYPNOTIZED?

Yes, HYPNOSIS IS A VERY NATURAL STATE! All hypnosis is self hypnosis and people slip in and out of hypnosis many times everyday. Day dreaming on a long journey and losing awareness of your surroundings. Being mesmerize by a movie, intrigued by a book or engaged in a conversation. There are different levels of consciousness and relaxation is achieved in all levels.

WILL I BE ASLEEP?

You will be in a very comfortable and pleasant state of deep relaxation. It is possible that you may fall asleep. Though hypnosis is not a Sleep State. You are alert, in control and aware of your environment at all times. You can hear all the sounds around you, and you remain relaxed and focused on the positive suggestions. You will remember most if not everything about your session.

CAN I GET STUCK IN HYPNOSIS?

You will not have any difficulty getting yourself out of the hypnotic state. You are mindful at all times of your surroundings. Therefore you can stop you session at anytime. If any type of emergency were to happen ie: if the fire alarm went off, you would open your eyes, and be back in your natural state of awareness. Otherwise you will be guided by the hypnotherapist to open your eyes after your session, instructing you to leave hypnosis and come back to your surroundings.

HOW DO I KNOW IF HYPNOSIS IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Hypnosis would be right for you IF ~ You are highly motivated, truly committed and willing to change the undesirable habits and limiting beliefs that are blocking your way to success. If you are ready to actively participate in the process to make the necessary life changes to achieve your goals. Then YES! Hypnosis is right for you. COMMITMENT IS KEY!
